Serpentine Heritage and Culture Trail 2012
 
The foundation of the project has always been the historic Serpentine Cemetery as a place of renewed community focus and appreciation.  Whilst the cemetery is highly significant both historically and culturally to the local community, it also provides an excellent starting point and destination for visitors to Serpentine. 
 
One major consideration during the public consultation of the first stage of the project was the need to focus attention upon raising the aesthetic appeal of the cemetery this included improving access from the Niche Wall area to the cemetery plot area.  General pedestrian access had been through an area of remnant vegetation, resulting in numerous informal pathways, often to the detriment of surviving vegetation.  Much of this area was under significant stress and faced a total lose of floral integrity.  General community consensus agreed the problem needed to be rectified with the placement of a formal pathway.
